Marble & Stone Fair, Riyadh-Saudi Arabia 24-27 February 2025

Why Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia’s economic freedom score is 55.5, making its economy the 118th freest in the 2022 Index. Saudi Arabia is ranked 9th among 14 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, and its overall score is below the regional and world averages. The Saudi Arabian economy was gaining strength five years ago before slowing in 2019 and then contracting in 2020. Growth resumed in 2021. Economic freedom has fluctuated over the past five years. Dragged down by sharply lower scores for fiscal health, judicial effectiveness, and property rights, the kingdom has recorded a substantial 8.9-point overall loss of economic freedom since 2017 and is now near the middle of the “Mostly Unfree” category. Generous state subsidies have been accompanied by light taxation, but government integrity and financial freedom have lagged.

Riyadh, Arabic Al-Riyad, city and capital of Saudi Arabia. The city’s name is derived from the plural of the Arabic rawdah, meaning gardens or meadows, so named for a natural fertility provided by its location at the juncture of Wadis Hanifah and Al-Batha. The spectacular sight of Riyadh from the air, illuminated in the evening by city lights, is reminiscent of its eponymous meadows; a bright sea of lights dot the desert as if fluorescent flower gardens have suddenly blossomed among its dark contours.
The city is located in the Mintaqat Al-Riyad, one of the country’s 13 provinces, and is situated in the central portions of both the country and the larger Arabian Peninsula.

Saudi Arabia is a very important country for the natural stone industry worldwide and continues to invest in construction with megaprojects and infrastructure investment on a notable high scale. Saudi Arabia is the fifth marble importer of the world ( based on their percentage of global import purchases) after China, India , Italy and Taiwan and the fourth in the list of the fastest-growing marble importers from 2010 to 2014.
During the last few years the Saudi Government has made huge social investments, building houses, hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, office buildings, etc. and the massive construction activity as a result has created an enormous demand for natural stone.
